The first full-length trailer for Jon Favreau’s live-action remake of Disney’s 1994 animated film, The Lion King, has been released.
“From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.“
Before I could even finish processing the trailer for Dumbo, Disney dropped another bomb on us with the trailer for its next “live-action” remake, The Lion King. With only a few minor changes, e.g. Rafiki using roots instead of a gourd to mark Simba’s head, the trailer could be shot-for-shot taken from the original, which is more than enough to make fans squeal like teen girl meeting….I don’t know, a Jonas Brother?
While there will always be concerns over a remakes faithfulness to such a loved original and if the new material will enhance or detract from a long-time-fan’s enjoyment, what we’ve gotten a glimpse at so far, looks promising. Not going to lie, listening to James Earl Jones’ voice-over kind of gave me goose bumps.
