Review

The first story in this series of Vampire: The Masquerade is “Winter’s Teeth,” written by Tim Seeley. It begins with a scene emphasizing what happens when someone breaks one of the rules of the Masquerade: swift punishment. The nature of the penalty is dependent on how valuable the criminal is to the local vampire prince. Seeley introduces a fascinating character with conflicting desires.

Cecily Baine is an enforcer and former Anarch and may very much be in the middle of the territorial war that is about to break out. Amidst her desire to maintain her independence she must work for the powers that be and struggle to keep her ailing, still human sister safe, while tempted to turn her into a monster.

The second episode in this issue, “The Anarch Tales, Part 1” is by Tini Howard and Blake Howard. This is a shorter story that reads as more of an introduction to a faction than a full narrative. The last few pages of the comic book are supplements that can be used with the near 30-year-old RPG basis for the comic.

The Bottom Line

Vampire The Masquerade: Winter’s Teeth begins an intriguing political thriller among the blood sucking factions of the Twin Cities. Everybody is a monster, and that’s part of the fun.

V. E. Schwab’s ExtraOrdinary #1 Review

ExtraOrdinary sets the stage of a tale of powered persons set in conflict with the world and each other. Each of them fully realized as individuals within a story that promises a depth beyond the usual comic fare.

Vinyl #1 (of 6) Review

Equally as brutal and disturbing as it is thought-provoking, Vinyl slathers the right kind of strange on thick. Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard's newest series is a discomforting must-read.
