Review:

“Which is it? Fight as John Jones? Or run as J’onn J’onzz?”

What a trip!? Martian Manhunter (2018-) #2 is packed tight with energy and intensity and all the right kinds of weird to leave readers begging for more martian goodness.

The jig is up; J’onn has been had and his partner now knows that he is not the man that he’s been pretending to be. In a single issue, Steve Orlando takes readers from a brief but intense scene at a ‘Seduction Dome,’ where the dome’s occupants are enjoying their comfort spikes, to a, dare I say, adorable one where J’onn picks up Floret from school (the Institute). Orlando is makes great use of his settings and provides Riley Rossmo with the opportunity to run wild.

The oozing of gooey-martian-goodness continues in Martian Manhunter (2018-) #2; Riley Rossmo’s style is unique and perfectly suited for a far-out, over-the-top story like this one. Despite not wanting to see Martian Manhunter ‘melt’ in the flames of a car wreck, I found it damn near impossible to pull my eyes away from Rossmo’s gorgeous illustrations and ended up spending a good deal of my time in that car, watching J’onn J’onzz burn…

The Bottom Line:

An impressive follow-up to an exciting debut, Martian Manhunter (2018-) #2 raises the bar and gains a great deal of momentum. An issue that is not to be missed…
