Review

The slow burn that is Heroes in Crisis heats up as the story’s pacing slows to a crawl. Despite a lack of plot progression, Heroes in Crisis (2018-) #3 adds insight into the inner-workings of the Sanctuary and the broken heroes that took refuge there.

It becomes clear, in Heroes in Crisis (2018-) #3, that, despite being created in an effort to assist heroes, the Sanctuary simply served as an outlet for the broken to perpetuate their suffering. As always, King’s script is carefully crafted to support both superficial entertainment and underlying depth-of-story.

Impressive scene setting and blocking offers a cinematic reading experience that guides readers through the damaged psyches belonging to those who once took refuge in the Sanctuary.

With more players being added to this game, the plot continues to thicken, further expanding and complicating the mystery that sits at the heart of this series.

The Bottom Line

Despite a lack of plot progression, Heroes in Crisis (2018-) #3 adds insight into the inner-workings of the Sanctuary and the broken heroes that once took refuge there, adding depth, and ultimately creating an immersive  reading experience.
