Review:

Nancy Drew and team scramble to find Bess before she meets an untimely death, but there would these crime bosses have taken her? With a little quick thinking from the team, they can save Bess and wrap up a major town wide conspiracy. Will Nancy Drew be quick enough to save Bess and solve a decade old case?

Kelly Thompson has continuously produced an exception comic series, Nancy Drew #5 is no exception. Thompson’s story keeps the tension high this issue as the group races to save Bess. Throughout, the series has centered around friendship and this final issue is the culmination of those bonds. This issue pushes those bonds to the limit when Bess’ life is one the line. The reveal this issue is equally as spectacular, as Nancy Drew and friends puts the the pieces all together. From the underground rave, to the Bayport docks, to the lobster the storyline has continued to keep the readers’ interests. As the final pieces of the puzzle fall into place, it’s a race to finish line. Fast-paced and intense, Nancy Drew #5 concludes in a spectacular flash and one final twist to the story.

Jenn St-Onge holds nothing back this issue. From Joe Hardy jumpy through a window to save Bess to the flare gun fire, St-Onge draws panel after panel of heart-pounding action. The panic and adrenaline within the issue are captured in every panel as the team races to save their friend.

The Bottom Line:

Nancy Drew #5 is the anticipated conclusion to the Cold Case story. With the mystery solved, but Nancy’s future hanging in the balance, Kelly Thompson crafts a highly suspenseful, action-packed issue. Jenn St-Onge’s art remains vivid and intense until the final panel.
