Review:

“Don’t you know what you could have had?! The Answers! You could have had everything we were all looking for!”

Readers, like myself, have been eagerly awaiting the moment where they would be given permission to step into The Black Barn and take a look around, and now, that we’ve glanced at its strange, mind-bending interior, there’s no going back.

Knowing that Father Fred was entering The Black Barn, in an attempt to rescue Clara, I was confident that this issue was going to be the strangest, and, perhaps, most intense issue of the run thus far, but this issue ended up being so much more than just strange and intense; Gideon Falls #6 is a mind-bending masterclass in visual storytelling.

Andrea Sorrentino’s depiction of The Black Barn’s interior is stunning. Visually, Gideon Falls #6 is a trip; readers can spend second and third readings admiring the detail that Sorrentino packed into each of this book’s panels. Sorrentino utilizes every square inch of space in this issue to create a haunting nightmarescape that creates an unforgettable reading experience.

As we continue to dive deeper down this rabbit hole, I can’t help but notice the similarities to, and the influence from, Mark Frost and David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. The Black Barn, the Black Lodge, the small town secrets…it’s all here, and yet, Gideon Falls continues to feel fresh and unique. Jeff Lemire has done a stunning job telling this twisted tale.

And finally, just when I thought that I was getting a clear idea of what was going on and where this story was heading, Lemire, in a single page, manages to completely change this tale and add an extra level of complexity; the last page in Gideon Falls #6 changes everything.

Gideon Falls is, without any doubt, one of the best comic book series currently in print. I am eager to start Book Two, and in the meantime, while I await the October release of Issue #7, I’ll be re-reading Book One.

The Bottom Line:

Gideon Falls #6 is a mind-bending masterclass in visual storytelling. As expected, additional answers bring additional questions, this book’s final page changes everything and adds an additional level of complexity to the story, and now, after having taken a brief look around the interior of the Black Barn, I am confident in saying that the best is yet to come.

Jupiter’s Legacy Is Not Watchmen and That’s Okay: Netflix Original Series Review

Jupiter’s Legacy hits incredibly hard while offering viewers a well-crafted blend of caped-crusading-escapism and social commentary; this combination makes for a grounded viewing experience that’s as exciting as it is though-provoking. Jupiter’s Legacy is a must-watch series.

Eve #1 Review

Eve is more than just a typical “save the planet” story. It is more about a little girl’s courage and a love that endures even in simulation. Armed with the fake bear and a dinghy, her adventure starts.
