You’ve never seen the heroes of the Valiant Universe quite like this before!”

Review:

Mystery, mayhem, and the homecoming dance! Oh my! Things are heating up in Valiant High #3. Secret identities are revealed and an ancient evil is rising. Now the teen superheroes must come together to stop whatever unnamed evil is threatening the school. All this before the homecoming dance, where Amanda has her eye on a special date. Will the student heroes succeed? Will Amanda McKee get her date with school heartthrob Aric?

High school is difficult enough without having to navigate superpowers and evil spirits, but the students of Valiant High are ready to rise to the occasion and kick some evil butt. Well sort of. Once again Kibblesmith brilliantly balances typical teenage drama with superhero responsibilities. Kibblesmith plays with classic elements of high school, like homecoming festivities and football, and supercharges them danger and intrigue. Topping off Kibblesmith’s storyline is his cast of characters, which he has masterfully developed throughout each issue. As for the plot itself, another touchdown, as we learn a bit more about the heroes and the evil afflicting the school revealed. The Eternal Sophomore storyline is surprising and fun, another twist to the mysterious history of Valiant High.

Derek Charm continues to build the visual world of Valiant High, countering the more sinister elements of the plot with bright colors and familiar settings. His art has been constant from issue to issue, creating the world of Valiant High. His depiction of the possessed football equipment adds a light touch to a spooky plot twist.Charm and Kibblesmith continue to impress as they work towards the conclusion of this storyline.

Can our young heroes save the school in time for the homecoming dance? Will the creepy janitor be revealed? Does Aric really like Amanda? I guess we’ll have to stay tuned and see how the next issue unfolds.

The Bottom Line:

Valiant High #3 has more than one big reveal, but the storyline isn’t wrapped up yet. Kibblesmith has left the best for last for the conclusion of the his storyline.
