Keep Reading Summary
Armed with new extra-governmental authority, the deep-black military contractor known as Omen has been authorized to identify, evaluate, and, if need be, eliminate all super-normal threats to the homeland. H.A.R.D. Corps units have been deployed into cities and towns across the United States to enforce their orders. In the East, one of the most powerful minds on Earth, Peter Stanchek, is leading his band of Renegades across the country, activating any potential psiots willing to join them, and building an insurrection force of ultra-powerful and unwieldy new abilities that will soon bring war to Omen’s doorstep…and the unstoppable force known as X-O Manowar raging back to Earth… In the West, Livewire – the telekinetic technopath with the ability to bend machines and computers to her will – will be forced to choose between her former allies…or her newfound team of Secret Weapons. As the situation escalates beyond human control, the United States will be plunged into darkness from coast to coast, launching Bloodshot and Ninjak into a dangerous mission to neutralize their one-time teammate – and setting the stage for the most shocking, most violent, and most consequential clash of powers ever witnessed in the history of the Valiant Universe!

Valiant’s newest, universe-spanning event, Harbinger Wars 2, has been teased and talked about and has gotten a good deal of hype for quite some time, and now, Issue #1 has finally arrived. With so much that’s been promised, the question on my mind when I began reading the issue was, “Will this live up to the hype?” After reading through the book, I am happy to report that the answer to my initial question is an undeniable yes.

Sure, it’s still too early to deem Harbinger Wars 2 a success, after all, this is only the first issue, but it’s clear that the creative folk at Valiant are treating this universe-spanning event the way that they should; there’s no larger-than-life villain or supernatural force that threatens all of existence, and from the looks of it, there isn’t a laundry list of required reading either. The prelude and tie-in issues will add to one’s enjoyment and understanding of this event, but they don’t have to be read.

Harbinger Wars 2 #1 does everything that a first-issue should and more; there’s exposition and there’s excitement. Matt Kindt has done a fantastic job in kicking this event off with an opening chapter that explains just as much as it entertains. His script is sharp and packed full of tight, well-polished writing and overall, offers a pleasurable reading experience that appeals to new and long-time readers alike.

Back in my first few reviews of the current X-O Manowar series, I raved about Tomas Giorello’s artowrk; saying that I was pleased to hear that he was yet again working with Matt Kindt on Harbinger Wars 2 is an understatement. Giorello’s illustrations are highly-detailed, hyper-realistic, and so very smooth. Each panel is a work of art in its own right.

The Bottom Line:

Valiant’s ambitious, universe-spanning event, Harbinger Wars 2, is off to a solid start. Harbinger Wars 2 #1 is a well-written, wonderfully-illustrated issue that is surprisingly accessible and enjoyable for new and long-time readers alike.

Eve #1 Review

Eve is more than just a typical “save the planet” story. It is more about a little girl’s courage and a love that endures even in simulation. Armed with the fake bear and a dinghy, her adventure starts.
