Title: Elsewhere #7
Writer: Jay Faerber
Artist/Cover: Sumeyye Kesgin, Ron Riley
Publication Date: May 23, 2018
Publisher’s Summary: “After suffering a massive setback, Amelia Earhart and D.B. Cooper push forward in their quest to reach the portal that will take them back to Earth.”
Picking up where issue #6 left off, Elsewhere #7 begins with Amelia stuck in the tentacles of a sea creature and D.B. on a sinking ship. Adverting one danger, the group continues on their journey, only to end up in another life-or-death situation. With an injured D.B., they reach their goal, the portal to Earth, but what’s waiting on the other side could be more dangerous than the world they live in.
Jay Faerber crafts a fun, adventurous story, full of quick wit. The characters are well written and dynamic, especially Amelia and D.B.. For them this journey is about going home, but they are fully aware of the uncertainty surrounding where and when they will be returned to Earth. Complementing Faerber’s story is Sumeyye Kesgin and Ron Riley’s artwork. Filled with vibrant and diverse settings, creative characters, and playful but deadly monsters, Kesgin and Riley create a beautiful world.
Though this issue was fun to read, it felt more like a bridge between issues #6 and #8. Much like Amelia and D.B., the reader is left with a fair amount of uncertainty for the future of the characters.
The Bottom Line:
Uncertainty plays a large role in this issue, both for the characters and the readers. This issue takes readers from #6 to #8, but with little action in between. Faerber’s does create a terrific cliffhanger that will bring readers back for issue #8.
