Publisher’s Summary: KICK-ASS IS BACK. Patience Lee’s shaking up the city’s organized crime rings to feed her family and give stolen money back to the community. But the enemies she’s making have friends in low places, friends that will avenge their bosses come hell or high water. The city’s most violent offender is fresh out of jail, and he’s got Kick-Ass in his sights. The third installment of the high-octane, blood-soaked return of KICK-ASS from MARK MILLAR and JOHN ROMITA JR.
Here we go again with yet another well-paced action-oriented book that entertains and excites from cover to cover. Here, in Kick-Ass #3, a new player, “the city’s most violent offender,” is added to the game, and with this new player comes new challenges for Patience to (hopefully) overcome.
The first section of this issue is void of Patience, but it’s time well-spent nonetheless as Millar introduces us to new baddie that our heroine must contend with; and, as I said, this is time well-spent because, in a handful of pages, Millar manages to not only introduce us to this new bad guy, but he also manages to instill in readers great concern for our protagonist.
This issue’s ending leaves readers with Patience in a predicament that has the potential to end her run as a vigilante. When we first met Patience, she was in a similar situation, so I’m not worried per se, but I am interested to see how things turn out.
Kick-Ass #3 sets the stage for an epic follow-up issue that readers will be eagerly awaiting.
The Bottom Line:
If you thought that this series couldn’t get any more brutal or intense or interesting, have I got a bridge to sell you. Kick-Ass #3 introduces a new player to this dangerous game and does so in a way that sets up an epic fourth issue.
