Publisher’s Summary: “PERFECT STORM” part two! Gorilla Grodd is after Central City’s Speed Force, and The Flash is on the run! But the one thing Barry Allen can’t outrun is the truth…and his nemesis knows a terrible secret about the Fastest Man Alive.

After this arc’s exciting start in Issue #39, The Flash (2016-) #40 uses all of the newly found momentum and ( pardon the pun) runs with it at an impressive speed. Gorilla Grodd is back and badder than ever despite being terribly ill. Immediately, Grodd takes control of the situation and begins causing havoc; he’s after the Speed Force, and while we don’t know why exactly he so desperately needs it, watching him fight for it will surely be entertaining.

As great as Joshua Williamson’s script is, illustrator Carmine Di Giandomenico and coloristIvan Plascencia’s work is strongest and stands tallest in this issue. Each page is epic and well formed and ultimately makes for a fantastic reading experience that rivals some of DC’s best books currently in print. I especially enjoy and appreciate the book’s beautiful full-page spreads that are packed with rich detail and explosive energy; The Flash (2016-) #40 is pure eye candy.

Having Grodd back on the scene makes for great Flash comics, and I’m sure that readers are pleased to see the Scarlet Speedster, yet again, taking on one of his greatest foes.

The Bottom Line:

The Flash (2016-) #40 is utter eye candy that just begs to be devoured by readers; couple this with a solid script that incorporates on of the Flash’s most dangerous enemies and you have an awesome comic book.
