Publisher’s Summary: “ANGRY BIRD” part one! Ever since he started horning in on New York City, the Penguin and Harley Quinn have been stuck in a cold war…and it’s about to heat up! Making a long-term investment in a Gotham City that’s crawling with Bats isn’t the Penguin’s style, so now he’s hell-bent on making Coney Island his new nest!
Opening with a wit-filled infomercial about fighting off bad guys, we findquirky Ms. Quinn doing what she does best, kicking ass and cracking jokes. Following Harley after her pact with the Suicide Squad, she is now alone in New York City continuing her crusade against crime. Alongside Harley, we we see The Penguin hatching his plans for the Big Apple with recognizable super-villains including Killer Croc, one of Harley’s teammates in the previous Suicide Squad…
Throughout Harley Quinn (2016-) #37, Adolfo’s artwork is on point and she does an especially fine job illustrating panel backgrounds that take place throughout NYC. Frank Tieri’s script is filled with wit, the dialogue is natural and easy to follow, and overall the issue is very balanced. Tieri also does a great job showcasing Harley’s struggle to ground herself.
The Bottom Line:
Harley Quinn (2016-) #37 is enjoyable and showcases different sides of Harley. Also mutant penguins and violence, what isn’t there to love? How will Harley and The Penguin duke it out? You’ll just have to stay tuned!
