Hold on ladies and gentleman because this ride is about to get rough. Ninjak Vs. the Valiant Universe #1 sets the stage for an epic event where MI-6’s best takes on, well, everyone in the Valiant Universe. Typically in comics, large events or crossover runs end up not making much sense and come off as nothing more than a marketing ploy to introduce readers to new characters; this one, however, is different because already it makes sense. The reason why Ninjak is going head-to-head with Valiant’s is a simple one, and knowing the folks at Valiant, I am sure that Ninjak Vs. the Valiant Universe will be thoroughly entertaining throughout its run.

Ninjak Vs. the Valiant Universe #1 is paced beautifully and despite having some work to do—in terms of setting this event up—wastes no time in delivering an action-packed, ass-kicking comic that is highly-entertaining. The stakes are high enough and throughout the book the level of intensity remains steady.

In Ninjak Vs. the Valiant Universe #1, Eliot Rahal’s writing is clear and concise and he carefully shares the weight of storytelling with his artists. Rahal’s dialogue feels natural and each of the diverse voices found in this book feel authentic. Joe Bennett and Belardino Brabo do a fine job in illustrating the high-octane scenes that fill this book; each panel explodes with energy.

The Bottom Line:

Ninjak Vs. the Valiant Universe #1 offers readers an action-packed to start to what promises to be an epic event. The reason as to why Ninjak will be taking on the entire Valiant Universe is quickly explained, and before long, the book takes off and the ass-kicking begins. An excellent first-issue.
