As reported by Variety, Warner Bros. has appointed Walter Hamada as the new President of DC-Based Film Production. Geoff Johns, who Hamada is replacing, will stay on as an advisor and will offer creative input on future DC-based Warner Bros. films and television shows. This news comes just as Warner Bros.’ latest blunder, Justice League, is reaching the end of its run in theaters.
Formerly, Hamada served as EVP of Production at New Line, and in his role, was pivotal in the success of Horror films and series like The Conjuring, Annabelle, and IT.
Geoff Johns, reached out to Hamada on Twitter, saying, “Welcome aboard, Walter!! Thrilled to be working with you! It’s been a blast on Shazam! — now it’s off to the rest of the DCU! (And get a twitter account!)”
Whether Hamada will be able to turn the ship around and begin matching, and/or surpassing, the overall success of Marvel Studios will be determined on a later date. Walter Hamada has a solid track record, and with upcoming DC releases like Aquaman, Wonder Woman 2, and Shazam, there is great potential for DC & Warner Bros. to get back in the game.
Only time will tell…What do you think about this decision?
