Review:

Professor Charles Xavier has returned from his endless banishment on the astral plane thanks to the help of his X-Men, and now that he’s back, he comes bearing gifts. This new arc shows great promise, especially after this issue’s ending.

Writer Charles Soule does an excellent job in Astonishing X-Men (2017-) #7 by way of tying up some loose ends and further progressing the story in a direction that is working. The stakes are high and Soule’s pacing is on par thus making Astonishing X-Men (2017-) #7, is a very readable – very enjoyable – issue. With an ending that works to generate interest, I am positive that the energy levels will remain high in Issue #8.

Artist Phil Noto takes over as artist, and although this books look is very different from Issue #6, his style works well to complement Soule’s action-heavy script. Noto’s illustrations are clean, his line work is crisp, and his expressions are telling; this book looks, feels, and reads great.

The X-Men are up against one hell of a foe come the end of this issue, and thus, I am looking forward to seeing how things play out.

The Bottom Line:

There’s quite a bit going on here, but Charles Soule manages to keep the story straight while also allowing it to develop further. Xavier is back and bearing gifts in Astonishing X-Men (2017-) #7, and although I am unsure if there isn’t something rotten in the state of Denmark, by way of Xavier’s return, I’m looking forward to Issue #8.
