Publisher’s Summary: “Trapped in the Dark Multiverse, Batman must face his greatest fears!”
Despite being easy enough to follow, the story in Batman: Lost (2017-) #1 is anything but straightforward. Readers will find themselves traveling through the life and times of Batman; seamlessly bouncing between Bruce Wayne’s past, present, and, perhaps, terrifying future. Batman knows that he must go up to get out, but unfortunately, the power of Barbados and the Dark Multiverse keeps pulling him further down the rabbit hole.
With Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, and Joshua Williamson working on both the plot and script of Batman: Lost (2017-) #1, it should come as no surprise that the end result—the finished book—is nothing short of amazing. Long-time Bat-fans will rejoice as this book is a sort of ode to Batman’s rich history. This book’s writers worked hard to not only portray Batman’s terror but also, to make readers feel it too.
In a word, epic. Batman: Lost (2017-) #1 is a beautiful mash-up of styles and techniques that ultimately produce one of the best looking comic books that I’ve ever seen. Not even halfway through the book, it becomes obvious that there was some serious care taken with the creation of this piece. Every panel, on its own, and when placed on the page, carries its own merit and is pure eye candy. There are two two-page spreads, that come at the book’s end, that each provides readers with good reason to stop and stare. After having done so myself, I absolutely recommend that readers take the times to admire these four pages particularly to absorb all of the luscious detail.
The Bottom Line:
Produced by a talented team of creators, Batman: Lost (2017-) #1 is a sensational comic that takes readers on an epic ride through the Dark Knight’s psyche; a must-read for Bat-fans.
