Audacious and outrageous – angry and aggressive – this is a poke in the eye of anyone who dares pick up an issue. These bad girls are criminal and violent and not the least bit trustworthy and maybe they deserve what’s coming to them, but that’s beside the point.

Grrl Scouts: Magic Socks #1The story is full on crazy from the very beginning and manages to increase velocity with each page. It is populated with a collection of anarchistic addlepated Charlie’s Angels who do whatever they feel like. The ensuing adventure barely makes any sense, but I like it anyway.

Everything about this title is loud and over the top. In words and drawings, Mahfood delivers maximum volume on each page with hallucinatory imaginings in every panel. This is not a place to find subtlety or nuance and for once that is not a bad thing. This is one story where the requirement is to just turn off your brain and run with it. Fun and insane and not at all boring. Calling this different is damning with faint praise.

The Bottom Line
An obvious spiritual descendent of Tank Girl and respectfully so. A wild thrill ride that is unrestrained and unapologetic. Truly an acolyte of gonzo psychedelia. As your attorney, I advise you to take more art.
Bold colors and unrestrained lines. Think less. Enjoy more. Gets better with each viewing.
Maybe too much, too crazy, too wild.
