I’ve noticed that Harley Quinn alternates between serious and fun story arcs. Since eating homeless people is kind of dark, I’m assuming Harley Quinn #20 will start a more jovial story. There’s only one way to know for sure. So, let’s get to it.
What’s Harley Quinn #20 about? From the publisher:
“FUTURE KILL” part one! You’ve seen her story begin to unfold in prior issues…who in the world is Bat-Fan, and why does she think Harley Quinn must die to save existence itself?! And in the backup story “Harley Loves Joker” part four, Harley’s mistakes have forced her to hide out with The Joker in a low-rent motel…unfortunately, they’ve had to b ring their entire goon squad—and a pack of very poorly behaved hyenas—along!
I like that multiple stories are being told at once. It keeps things interesting and teases future arcs without being distracting from the current one. But now there’s a problem. While I enjoyed Harley Quinn #20, I didn’t get enough of anything. The back feature cuts the issue in half and then the remaining half is split up amongst three different stories. It feels more like I read the condensed pitch for an issue instead of the issue itself
I’m not sure what I did to offend him, but I’m pretty sure “Harley Loves Joker” was written by Paul Dini specifically to hurt me. He knew exactly what I wanted and built towards it with each and every panel and then……that’s how he ends it? I would have used Joker’s confession as a wedding proposal but I guess Paul doesn’t want me to be happy.
Dear Mr. Dini
You were right, that was the perfect ending. It shouldn’t have ended any other way. I’ve loved this whole story and Part 4 is no different. I’m just being a baby because I really wanted this chapter to end differently. Once again I can’t wait for the next issue.
