Grrl Scouts Magic Socks #4 Review

“There Will Be Blood, Bile, And Candy Corn For Everyone !!!”

Grrl Scouts continues to surpass any expectation I might have. The sheer audacity is unparalleled. The artwork is astounding and painful. This is a book that breaks boundaries and scorches the Earth. No quarter will be given. Edgy is putting it mildly. Whatever is happening here, it is fantastic.

So Daphne wakes up in a gonzo limbo with her own version of Virgil who bears an uncanny resemblance to Hunter S. Thompson. “When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro,” indeed. Mahfood delivers an unrepentant manifesto of high voltage crazy in each issue and still crafts an amazing and exciting story within the bedlam. None of these persons or events are at all close to reality, but the story works so well – not in spite of the out-there-ness, but because of it.

Everybody is out of their mind. The whole world is insane and nobody has the inside track on the truth and Grrl Scouts just loves to rub our faces in it. Anarchic and out of control, this is one of the most original comics out there. I expect it will all end in a massive destructive fireball, but that’s okay, nobody really believes in happy endings anymore anyway.
