Dark Nights: Metal #3 will make jaws drop. The first two issues of this series (event) were fantastic, and this, the third issue, is downright outstanding. Rather than move forward, the story is expanding in every direction, gaining momentum, and getting increasingly more intense. As the Metal story has progressed, it has blossomed more than just the epic tale that we were promised; with Dark Nights: Metal #3 the story, by its end, takes a terribly dark turn that will stun fans.
Ah, where to begin? In past reviews, I have said a whole hell of a lot about Scott Snyder and his writing abilities, but one aspect that I have somehow forgotten to mention is his unrivaled attention to detail. Snyder puts in the time and effort required to appease even the most demanding of fans in writing each of his books. Dark Nights: Metal #3 is well researched and well thought out, and frankly, may be one of his best books to date.
Hint: Pay special attention to the first scene of the issue and refer to it after finishing the book.
Strength Determination Merciless Forever. These four words, that Black Label Society fans will instantly recognize, perfectly describe Greg Capullo and his artwork. Especially in Dark Nights: Metal #3 the man is merciless when it comes to laying down tasty lines. From the first page of this book through to the last, Capullo refuses to hold back and produces powerful illustrations. Capullo’s attention to detail separates him from fellow comic book artists, and the intensity that he brings to every panel is a true marker of his talent.
The Bottom Line:
This series is only getting better ladies and gentlemen. I know it’s hard to believe, but Dark Nights: Metal #3 is the best book of the event so far and showcases some of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s greatest work. An absolute must-read for DC fans!
